On Friday, June 15, 2018, I attended a ceremony where, three members of the North Providence Police Department were recognized at the 2018, RIDOT, Highway Safety Champion Award Ceremony held at Amica Insurance in Lincoln.
The Highway Safety Champion Award is a traffic safety award program that focuses on three (3) major highway safety priorities: occupant protection/seatbelts, impaired driving and speed management.
The below officers received awards:
Lieutenant Michael A. Gawel – Speed Enforcement Award
Officer Nicholas D. Gannon – Impaired Driving Enforcement Award
Officer Michael A. Colucci Jr. – Occupant Protection/Seatbelt Enforcement Award.
These awards, presented by RIDOT, provided an opportunity to recognize individual officers within our department who have made a significant difference in the community we serve through traffic safety activities, ultimately reducing injuries, saving lives and deterring crime.
“I wish to thank RIDOT for recognizing these officers for their traffic safety enforcement efforts. As Chief, I wish to convey my sincere gratitude to these officers for the distinction they have brought upon the department and themselves as well as commend all our officers for their vigilance in enforcement of the motor vehicle code. Targeted enforcement of speeding violations, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs and seatbelt enforcement saves lives. These award recognitions are something the individual officers, our department and the resident of our town can all be proud of.”
Respectfully,
Colonel David P. Tikoian
Chief of Police
