The North Providence Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance. In the past several months the residents of our Town have become victims of tire and rim theft from their vehicles.
The police department has taken a very proactive approach in reference to this matter by increasing patrols, deploying unmarked cars, bicycle patrols and surveillance in target areas of interest.
Criminal activity mapping data has shown, target areas of interest are Woonasquatucket Avenue, Douglas Avenue, Charles Street and the surrounding streets. Generally these thefts occur between the hours of 10:00pm -5:00am.
Investigators have also identified those vehicles which appear to be desirable or specifically being targeted. These vehicles include, but are not limited to, Nissan Sentras, Altimas and Maximas, Honda Accords and Civics, and Toyota Camrys and Corollas.
If you own one of these make or model vehicles, we ask that you consider taking reasonable measures to ensure the safety of your vehicle. For example, keep your vehicle in a well lite area, have an alarm installed in your vehicle, purchase rim locks and consider installing video cameras at your residence.
We also ask that you pay special attention during inclement weather, as it appears these tire and rim thieves use the cover and distraction of rain, snow and wind during the performance of these larcenies.
Pay special attention to vans and trucks that you haven’t seen in your neighborhood before. It appears this criminal operation implores the use of multiple vehicles in the commission of these larcenies.
This is a group effort. Please help us make your neighborhoods safer by contacting the North Providence Police Department at 401-231-4533 if you see any suspicious activity in or around your neighborhood.
Remember, “If you see something, say something.”
