“Colonel Tikoian is pleased to announce the installation of a MedReturn Drop Box, located in the front lobby of the North Providence Police Station. The installation of the MedReturn Drop Box provides a convenient location where residents can safely dispose of unwanted, unused or expired prescription medications safely and securely, free of charge, 24/7, 365 days a year.
The North Providence Police Department will join 20 other police department across the state, including three neighboring communities of Johnston, Smithfield and Providence, who currently house a drop box for residents in their respective police stations to dispose of prescription drugs. Having a location where residents can safely dispose of prescription drugs and remove them from the medicine cabinets of their homes will prevent dangerous prescription drugs from getting into the wrong hands.
The installation of the MedReturn Drop Box was the result of partnership the Town of North Providence and the North Providence Police Department have forged with Tri-County Community Action Agency, Southern Providence County Regional Coalition and the North Providence Substance Abuse Prevention Collation. I wish to thank Ms. Patricia Sweet, Director of Prevention at Tri-County Community Action Agency and also Director of the Southern Providence County Regional Coalition who coordinated the purchase and delivery of the MedReturn Drop Box.
Partnering with these agencies on this initiative is yet another tactic to fight against the opioid epidemic that plagues our Town, State and Nation.”
Colonel David P. Tikoian
